Edge Dashboard Stops Updating in a Background Tab?
Test whether a sleeping tab is pausing the page, then keep only that trusted site active.
Leave the dashboard open until updates stop, then return to its tab. If it immediately catches up, review Edge Settings → System and performance → Performance → sleeping tabs. Add that trusted dashboard to “Always keep these sites active” and repeat the test.
Prove the delay happens while the tab is inactive
A dashboard that stops only in a background tab is different from a dashboard whose data source is down. Keep a clock or changing number visible, switch to another tab for the usual failure period, and return. Note whether the page reloads, suddenly catches up, or stays stale.
- Try the dashboard as the active tab for the same time period.
- Check whether the service itself reports delayed data.
- Test one background tab before changing global Edge settings.
Check Edge performance features
Microsoft says sleeping tabs pause a page to save resources. In Edge’s performance settings, review the sleep interval and add a specific site to “Always keep these sites active.” Use the actual dashboard URL or domain shown in the address bar. This is more targeted than disabling sleeping tabs for every website.
A discarded tab is different: Microsoft says it releases the page from memory and reloads when you return. If the entire page reloads, memory pressure may be involved. Compare the behavior with fewer other tabs open.
If keeping the site active does not help
Check the website’s own refresh interval or live-connection status. Browser extensions that pause scripts can also affect one site. Test the same dashboard in a clean Edge profile before blaming the sleep setting. Restore the previous Edge setting if it did not change the result.
Keep always-active exceptions limited. A live dashboard can consume memory and battery while you work elsewhere.
