DaVinci Resolve Project Opens, but All Media Is Missing

A project file and its source footage are different things; find the original media before rebuilding the edit.

Quick answer

If you imported a .drp project and see Media Offline, first locate the video, audio, and image files used by that project. Relink them in the Media Pool. For future transfers, a Resolve Project Archive can carry the project and its media together.

Identify what was transferred

A .drp file carries a project, not necessarily the footage it references. Blackmagic’s beginner guide says imported projects may open with offline clips until they are relinked to media on the current computer. Search the drive or transfer package for the source clips before replacing anything in the timeline.

  1. Confirm the project appears in the Project Manager.
  2. Check whether its source media folder was also copied.
  3. Keep original filenames and folder structure where possible.

Relink the copied media

In the Media Pool, select the affected bin or clips and choose Relink Media. Point Resolve at the copied source folder. Check a mix of footage, music, images, and titles; one relink pass may not cover files stored in unrelated locations. Save the project only after the timeline and viewer show the expected media.

Worth checking

Do not delete offline clips and re-import replacements one by one until you have tested relinking. That can break existing edits.

Use a self-contained transfer next time

Blackmagic describes Project Archive as a way to move a project with its media. Make an archive, restore it on the destination machine, and test a short render before retiring the original copy. The exact archive options matter when proxies or render cache are involved, so confirm that the needed originals are included.
