Mason Jar Salads for Meal Prep
Layer a jar salad so dressing stays away from leaves until lunch.
Quick answer
Put dressing at the bottom, sturdy ingredients next and dry greens on top. A jar helps with texture, but it still needs refrigeration.
What you need
- For one jar, use 2 tablespoons dressing, 1/2 cup chickpeas, chopped cucumber and peppers, and 2 handfuls dry greens.
- Choose a wide-mouth jar or container that leaves enough space to shake or empty into a bowl.
How to make it work
- Wash and dry produce thoroughly. Add dressing, chickpeas, sturdy vegetables and greens in that order.
- Seal and refrigerate; at lunch, tip into a bowl or shake vigorously to distribute dressing.
Checks and useful changes
- Very soft fruit and avocado brown or soften quickly; add them just before eating.
- For long storage, keep wet and leafy parts separate and follow food-safety guidance for cut produce.
