The Semimaru is a rare sports car, not a bike. Its unlock has two parts: first claim the vehicle, then repair its special paint feature. Here’s the quickest way to understand both—no console commands or mod installs needed.
Check these 2 quests.
These are the main story-side-job requirements listed for the Semimaru in the Update 2.3 notes.
Tick the missions you've completed in your own save.
Car first. Paint second.
You unlock the Semimaru and its CrystalCoat in separate jobs.
Motorbreath
River Ward messages you about a stolen sports car. Complete the job to add the Semimaru to your garage.
Where Eagles Dare
Try the Semimaru’s special paint option, contact Claire, and complete the follow-up job to restore CrystalCoat.
Follow these 6 steps.
Two short quest chains, explained in normal language.
Finish River and Claire’s jobs.
Complete The Hunt and The Beast in Me. Watch for a new message from River Ward after the prerequisites are done.
STAGE 1 / REQUIREMENTSStart Motorbreath.
Open River’s message about a stolen vehicle. Track Motorbreath and follow its objective toward Watson.
STAGE 1 / STARTRecover the Semimaru.
Follow the marked car and complete the in-game encounter. Enter the Semimaru and finish the conversation with River to keep it.
STAGE 1 / REWARDTry its CrystalCoat feature.
Once you own the Semimaru, get inside and try the paint customization. The feature needs a separate follow-up job before it works properly.
STAGE 2 / TRIGGERContact Claire for Where Eagles Dare.
Follow the new lead from Claire Russell. Visit the marked garage location in Arroyo, Santo Domingo.
STAGE 2 / QUESTUse the garage terminal.
Finish the location objectives and interact with the indicated computer/terminal to unlock the car’s CrystalCoat paint options.
STAGE 2 / FINISHYou do not need to modify game files: the Semimaru and its CrystalCoat unlock through ordinary in-game side jobs.
Paint or quest missing?
Try the official requirements first. These follow-up checks are not guaranteed fixes for every save.
River still has not sent Motorbreath.
Check that The Hunt and The Beast in Me are actually finished. Complete remaining River quest conversations and give the game time to deliver new messages; waiting is not a guaranteed fix.
CrystalCoat is still locked after getting the car.
That is expected until the separate “Where Eagles Dare” side job is completed. Try the Semimaru paint action and check your messages for Claire.
The wheels flash random colors after applying paint.
This was a documented bug in older builds. CD Projekt Red says Patch 2.31 fixed the issue. Update the game to 2.31 or newer before troubleshooting other causes.
The wheel-color bug is fixed.
In its September 11, 2025 Patch 2.31 notes, CD Projekt Red confirmed a fix for the Semimaru’s wheels flashing different colors when applying CrystalCoat. If you see this effect on an older game version, update first. If it persists on a current version, check whether mods change vehicle visuals.
