Error 91 is a failed party join—not a ban message.
Epic documents error 91 as an issue joining a party. Check Fortnite service status ↗, then ask the leader to verify Party Joinability and send a fresh invite. If it persists, Epic also recommends file verification on PC, clearing console cache, checking crossplay/NAT on consoles and restarting your connection.
Where does error 91 stop the party?
Use the moment it fails to pick the next sensible check; do not assume the same cause for every player.
4 easy things to try, in order
These are adapted from Epic’s error-91 checklist and ordered from simplest to more involved.
Check server status and the party leader’s joinability
Open Epic’s status page. In Fortnite, the leader can open their profile and check Party Joinability. Use Joinable or send a fresh request/invite when set to Invite Only.
Private parties are not broken merely because they require an invite.
Disband the old group and try a fresh lobby
Have everyone return to the lobby, leave the party, restart Fortnite if needed and issue new invites. Make sure friends are on a compatible, currently available playlist.
This is a reversible session reset; do not repeatedly spam stale invitations.
Test crossplay, NAT and the local connection
On consoles, verify cross-platform play is permitted and check multiplayer NAT/connection status. Restart the router if other connection symptoms are present. On PC, use Epic Launcher → Library → Fortnite → … → Manage → Verify.
Epic’s official checklist separates PC file verification from console cache and NAT checks.
Apply platform-specific recovery before contacting Epic
If only one console fails, use its official cache-reset guidance; avoid deleting cloud saves. Restart the device, retest one invite, and note the exact error and platform combination for support.
Reinstalling the full game should not be the opening move for a party failure.
Error 91 is not evidence that your skins or Epic account are broken. Avoid changing linked accounts, deleting cloud data or using unofficial party tools.
If it still refuses to join
These exceptions tell you what to report instead of repeating the same four steps.
A specific friend alone cannot join.
Ask that player to test another party and check their crossplay and platform network permissions. Record whether error 91 follows their account or your party.
The invite works after changing leader.
One player’s session or network path may be involved; that alone does not prove the leader has a faulty router.
You can join solo games but not parties.
Keep troubleshooting party permissions and social connection separately from general matchmaking.
The error began after a Fortnite update.
Check the status page and report the build/platform if many other players are affected.

Epic error-91 help ↗Quick FAQs
Does Fortnite error 91 mean I am banned?
No. Epic describes it as a party-join issue, not a ban or anti-cheat decision.
Is setting the party to Public required?
No. Fortnite’s Party Joinability can be Joinable or Invite Only; valid invites should work with Invite Only.
Can error 91 happen across platforms?
Yes. Console crossplay permissions and NAT conditions can be relevant.
Should I verify Fortnite files?
That is an official Epic step for PC players; console players have different cache and connectivity checks.
Will reinstalling Fortnite solve it?
There is no guarantee; try the targeted party and network checks first.
