Close the launcher completely, restart it, then try Epic’s official Repair option.
Epic’s support says to end the Epic Games Launcher task in Windows Task Manager, then relaunch it using Run as administrator if permitted on your device. If cloud sync still stalls, use the launcher’s Repair option in Windows installed-apps/Control Panel where available. Check Epic service status and the network connection before considering reinstall. Do not delete local saved data or blindly overwrite a sync conflict.
Where does cloud sync stop?
A stuck application, account sync delay and conflict dialog require different decisions.
4 simple checks, in the right order
Start with the fastest reversible test, then move to the next check only if the symptom remains.
Fully end the Epic Games Launcher process
Quit the launcher and open Windows Task Manager. Find the Epic Games Launcher and end its task as Epic instructs. Reopen the launcher; use Run as administrator only if authorized for that PC. Try opening Fortnite once after it finishes reconnecting.
Closing only the launcher window may leave the background process active.
Check internet and Epic service status before repair
Confirm that ordinary connections work and visit Epic’s status page. If cloud-related services are degraded, wait and avoid repeated edits. If the connection is stable, look for the launcher’s Repair entry in Windows installed apps/Control Panel and use Epic’s supported repair workflow.
Repairing the launcher is different from deleting all game files.
Protect any local settings or sync-conflict data
If an explicit cloud-versus-local choice appears, do not guess. Check the available timestamps and understand which changes matter before accepting one side. If you cannot identify the newer or correct copy, cancel and ask support rather than risking an overwrite.
Do not delete local save directories or disable sync as a first step.
Retry after repair and collect evidence if it repeats
Restart Windows, open the launcher normally and see whether the cloud-sync banner completes. If it still loops, record the exact message, launcher version, network behavior and steps already tried. Contact Epic rather than using unknown scripts or cleaners that wipe cache and settings indiscriminately.
A synced game library and account progress are separate from locally installed files.
An incorrect overwrite can cost local settings or saves. Verify what is being synchronized before taking irreversible actions.
If the first four checks do not help
Use these specific clues to avoid unnecessary changes.
Task Manager restart fixes it
The earlier launcher process was likely stuck.
Repair helps but sync stalls again
Check service health and underlying connectivity next.
A conflict dialog asks to replace data
Preserve the correct copy and do not auto-choose the cloud version.
Only this PC is affected
That points more to local launcher or network state than account-wide failure.
Still seeing this problem?
Note the platform, exact symptom, when it started, and which checks changed anything. Share that evidence through official Epic support.

Is a cloud sync loop the same as corrupted Fortnite files?
Not necessarily. The launcher can get stuck even with intact game files.
Does Epic recommend ending the launcher task?

Should I uninstall Fortnite first?
No. Start with process restart and launcher Repair.
Can an Epic outage cause a sync delay?
Yes. Check official status before making local changes.
What if I see two different save versions?
Identify the correct data before choosing; do not overwrite blindly.
