Inspect a save header privately in your browser and learn how to make safe backups before editing advanced game data. This guide separates confirmed game features from community tweaks, examples and hardware-dependent estimates.

✦Quick answer

Inspect a save header privately in your browser and learn how to make safe backups before editing advanced game data. Start with the interactive section, then use the reversible troubleshooting steps below. Numbers shown as estimates are not game benchmarks.

Private Browser Save Header Inspector

Drag a local .sav file here. The file stays on this device in your browser; this tool only checks its name, size and Unreal GVAS header. It does not transmit, decode or modify the compressed database.

Local-only GVAS validation · no server uploads

No file opened yet. A header check is not an inventory editor.

To modify Galleons, talent points or inventory you need a compatible local game-save editor. Hogwarts Legacy embeds an Oodle-compressed SQLite payload; a browser file input alone cannot safely edit it.

Practical setup

Step-by-step guide

Follow these checks in order and verify the result before changing anything else.

What the file picker can and cannot do

The on-page tool safely inspects the first 48 bytes and identifies a common Unreal Engine GVAS signature. The character inventory, money, quest states and talent points are stored deeper inside the game’s compressed save databases.

  1. Exit the game and pause cloud synchronization before editing.
  2. Copy the full SaveGames directory to an independent folder.
  3. Keep at least one known-good save slot and an unchanged backup.
  4. Use a reputable locally installed editor that can round-trip the current save format.
  5. Make one small change, load into the game offline, test and revert if anything looks wrong.

Where to find PC saves

On standard Steam/Epic PC installations, look under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames; folders may be nested by an account-specific identifier. Other storefronts may use different paths.

Actual edit capabilities differ by tool

A community editor documents fields including Galleons, inventory capacity, XP, resources and talents. Changing a House, wand core or arbitrary quest state is substantially riskier and may not be supported or persist. Never imply these can all be edited by uploading a file to a webpage.

Why SQLite editing is advanced

Reverse-engineering documents describe an Unreal GVAS wrapper and multiple Oodle-compressed SQLite images. Editing just one internal copy may cause state mismatches. Exporting the file directly as SQLite without conversion does not work.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file sent to the internet?

No. This single-file inspector reads the selected bytes locally in your browser.

Can this webpage change Galleons?

No. It intentionally does not claim to parse or rewrite the compressed save database.

Can I change my House or wand safely?

That is not a generally supported safe edit and can break quest/story dependencies.

Will save editing trigger Steam achievements?

Not necessarily. Many achievements require actual in-game events and cannot be triggered by save-state edits.
